Explore the beautiful country of The Sultanate of Oman
The Sultanate of Oman seamlessly blends tradition and modernity on the Arabian Peninsula,
Before delving into the wonders of Oman, let me recount the exceptional moments preceding my flight. I found myself exceptionally fortunate to experience Etihad Business Class, an unparalleled journey that began the moment I stepped in. Treated like royalty, I felt genuinely valued, deserving of the most extraordinary experience in the world. The fine dining was exquisite, featuring a 7-course degustation dinner rivalling upscale restaurants. The cocktails, especially the signature ‘The Melbournian,’ were exceptional, and the service was truly mind-blowing.
Now, the real adventure unfolds. The Sultanate of Oman seamlessly blends tradition and modernity on the Arabian Peninsula, with Muscat, the capital, just under an hour away from Abu Dhabi.
Warm smiles and open arms greet visitors, whether entering a shop or exploring a heritage centre, accompanied by sweet Arabic coffee and delicious dates.
Oman is undeniably one of the most captivating countries I’ve ever visited, and I’ve been privileged to explore the world in my travel career. The far north Musandam region boasts arid mountains, while the Jabel Akhdar area is lush, and Jabel Shams, the mountain range next to Alila, is arid. However, what stands out the most is the transition from desert aridness to breathtaking turquoise blue waters while swimming with turtles and watching dolphins.
The country’s topography is incredibly diverse, but note that distances can be quite extensive, requiring careful planning to make the most of your stay. Oman embraces tourism while adhering to strict guidelines, limiting development to low-rise properties with a simple, clean look – white or cream buildings and homes. When I questioned my local guide about the low-rise buildings, he responded, “Why should anyone miss the beautiful mountain views?”
Oman places a strong emphasis on preserving architecture, history, and cultural identity, reflecting the deep love and patriotic respect the people have for their Sultanate and country. And don’t even get me started on the food – I quite literally indulged my way through this country!
The culinary traditions, influenced by Arabian, Northern African, and Indian flavours, felt like stepping into an “old Arabian movie,” with the scent of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and frankincense wafting through exotic souks.
In essence, Oman is a hidden gem that should not be overlooked. Its diversification is a breath of fresh air – magical to some, biblical to others. Oman respects all people, religions, cultures, and takes pride in its ancient heritage.
